The Football League last week presented West Bromwich Albion with a commemorative plaque to mark the club’s 125-year status as founder members. 

The memorial celebrates the Baggies’ involvement in the establishment of The Football League in 1888. 

During the half-time interval of the Capital One Cup clash with Arsenal at The Hawthorns, Albion Chief Executive, Mark Jenkins, accepted the award on behalf of the club from The Football League’s Independent Director, Richard Bowker. 

A permanent location for the plaque is yet to be decided on but the club have confirmed it will be positioned in a public area for fans to view.  

“The club are proud and honoured to be founder members,” said Mark Jenkins.

“I’d like to thank The Football League for marking the occasion with a plaque that will forever recognise our history and heritage.”

Richard Bowker, Independent Director of The Football League said: “As Founder Members of The Football League, the name West Bromwich Albion is synonymous with the 125 year history of league football.

Baggies supporters should take great pride from the contribution their club has made to the game of football and we are delighted to make this special presentation to commemorate that”.

Ten of the twelve founder member clubs have now been presented with the special blue plaques.  Aston Villa and Stoke City will be presented with their plaques later this season.
